Here are some questions to ask when interviewing a potential coach for your program. Pick and choose what works for you.
Where do you presently work?
Tell us of your experiences in coaching.
Can you make an after school practice? Any time conflicts?
Do you feel coaches within a program should be involved in out-of-season camps. Fundraisers, etc?
How involved would you be within a program to assist in out-of-season activities?
Coaches conversations must remain confidential.
Any talk about player time, abilities, negatives, must remain between you and me.
Don’t ever say anything that will jeopardize our program, put me, AD or school in the hot seat. Speak positively about program and Admin. Any time you have concerns, parental hot issues come to me.
I have a program outline for coaches that I give out. In it I explain my ideas, strategies, goals and some typical plays. Can you work with a head coaches requests?
When running a practice, either MS or HS, how much freedom should athletes have in side talking?
When running a practice the coach must be prepared for every minute and firmly in charge. Kids want to see intensity and busy and learning. Are you organized?
You have a parent who is verbally attacking you during or after a game. What do you do?
You have a parent who is ripping on you, complaining about playing time, saying you have favorites
Hope this helps,
Coach O
